Tonbridge Bobcats vs Hastings June 21st

The Tonbridge Bobcats faced the Hastings Pirates on June 21st in a double-header of the top two teams in the British Baseball Federation Division 5 South. The games were played at Claremont School in Hastings, Kent with Game 1 starting at noon.

Game1: the Bobcats fell just short by two runs in the opening game, in which there were three homeruns. The box score ended with nearly identical stats, as both teams recorded 13 hits, zero errors, two strikeouts, and three walks. The Pirates capitalised on homers which ended their at bats in the 1st and 2nd innings and earned them more runs than the typical maximum of five. The Bobcats rallied, scoring five in both the 2nd and 3rd, but then were unlucky in the final inning when the side was retired without scoring. Pirates 14, Bobcats 12.

Game2: The hosting Pirates earned another win over the visiting Tonbridge Bobcats, final score of 8 to 5. Gareth Nutt led the offense with three hits and an RBI, and four other Bobcats earned an RBI. Mike Bartlett pitched all four innings for the Bobcats, allowing 12 hits but only 3 walks. The Bobcats rallied in the 5th and final inning, but fell short by 3 runs so the Pirates did not need to bat.

Tonbridge’s record for the season moved to 10-6 after these two games, and they remained in 2nd place in the standings of the British Baseball Federation Division 5 South.

On Deck: the Bobcats next play July 12th at Brighton against the Jets.
